RDCEM was founded in 1986 by Professor Haoran Jian, an honored pioneer who devoted himself to Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology. In combination of the academic frontiers and society demands, RDCEM has been given great expectation in building a key platform incubating cutting-edge minds specialized in the research and development of environmental microbiology, and in providing scientific support to the environment protection and sustainable development of Guangdong province or even China.

There are three specifications in RDCEM: (1) Theory and application of microbial processes in aquatic systems; (2) Removal mechanism and biotechniques of toxic VOCs; (3)      Methods of evaluation, management and control of ecological risks.

We now have 74 regular staff, including seven professors, two associate professors, and one senior engineer. Achieved awards of the staff included National Ten Thousand Talent Program for Scientific and Technological Innovation Leader, National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, Guangdong Special Brand Plan for Scientific and Technological Innovation Leader, and Guangdong Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and so on. RDCEM has undertaken 181 national, provincial and local projects, yielding over 100 SCI articles and over 40 authorized invention patents. We have received 13 ministerial and provincial rewards from the government. In addition, we highly appreciate academic communications and have established close relationships with groups from all around the world, including domestic ones and those from United States, Denmark, Great Britain and Australia.
