Academician

Wu Qingping (1962.11-), male, Doctor of philosopher, Researcher, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is the tutor in both University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and South China University of Technology, and the director of Guangdong Institute of Microbiology, vice president of Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, vice chairman of China Edible Fungus Association.

In response to the serious microbial safety risk in China’s food industry, Academician Wu started with basic research, invented advanced common monitoring technology, and established microbial safety and risk-related theoretical system. He focuses in settling the problems of monitoring the microbial contamination and disinfection byproducts of the packaging drinking water industry and the edible fungus. He significantly promotes the Chinese scientific theories of food safety and the healthy development of the industry.

Wu has hosted over 45 major scientific research projects with national, provincial and ministerial level, obtained 39 achievements in national and international advanced levels by the Guangdong province. He has applied for 135 inventions and utility models, of which 75 has been authorized. He won 2 Second Class Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 5 First Class Prize and 4 Second Prizes of Ministerial and Provincial-Level Science and Technology Awards, 2 Chinese patent awards of excellence, and 1 Guangdong patent gold award. He has published over 370 papers in national academic journals both in domestic and international conferences, including 112 SCI or EI papers. For these contributions, he was awarded the title of major contributor of drinking water industry in China in 2005, outstanding scientific and technological worker of drink industry in 2009, “National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker” in 2010, the Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2012, the first Guangdong Inventor Award in 2013. He was selected as one of the one hundred Outstanding Talent project for Southern Guangdong, and won Inventor Prize in Guangdong and the first Outstanding Contribution Award for Southern Guangdong in 2017.

In 2015, he was elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
