In this year, the CEFC is focused on the topic "Edible and Medicinal Fungi Strain Industry Development and Microbial Food Manufacture" which aims to promote the international research and technique innovation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Related research fields, industrial sectors, and government department fellows attended. The president of China Edible Fungi Association, and Professor Wu Qinping from CAE, addressed the CEFC opening ceremony.

Dai Bingye, the Deputy Director-General of the China rural technology development center, said, China owned a time-honored history of edible fungi cultivation, and skilled in growth control of multiple edible fungi varieties. Within the past two decades, the edible fungi industry ranked in the crucial crop farming industry. Edible fungi cultivation is now put on the national agenda of agriculture promotion. It is a raising industry which helps farmers out of poverty efficiently. It is reported that the edible fungi cultivation industry works in 75% (462 out of 592) of the national Aid-the-poor and Focal-point Counties.

Huang Binmin, the Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Province Agriculture Department, said, the consumption and export of edible fungi are in large quantities in Guangdong. There are also a plenty natural resources for edible fungi cultivation in our province. Along with the government's policy supported by the Agriculture Department, Guangdong Academic of Science and Guangdong Institute of Microbiology have contributed to running the Shaoguan Edible Fungi Industry Park in 2019. He expects, with the scientific leading of this industry park, the related industries could be converged and the poverty in northern Guangdong mounting area would be reduced efficiently.

The 5th CEFC was sponsored by the China Edible Fungi Association, the National Microbial Strain Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Union, the Guangdong Institute of Microbiology and the Guangdong society of microbiology, and co-sponsored by Guangdong Edible fungi Association, Guangdong Yue Wei Edible Fungi Technology Company, Guangdong Huan Kai Microbiology Company, and Guangdong Senior Researcher Association.

Wu Qingping, a member of China Academic Engineering, gave a speech of "Chinese Macrofungi Resource, Exploration and Functional Research " . He pointed out that the edible fungi natural resource is diverse in species, and is also a treasury of natural pharmacological component. He emphasized that the R&D of natural edible fungi resources will guide the the developmemt of edible fungi industry in China, and the social health will be benefit.

Bian Yinbing, professor of Hua Zhong Agricultural University, laid out eight scientific issues which should be encountered by Letinous mushroom industry: substance substitute, spawn degeneration, efficient maturation of mycelium in the mushroom bag, qualified breeding, mushroom bag water maintaining, artificial environment adjusting, product flavor improvement and spawn fertility identification. There is a huge room for the growth of Letinous mushroom industry, in dealing with the problems above, he said.

Feng Lei, a senior professor of age-related cognitive from the National University of Singapore, said, senile dementia might boost in the coming up one or two decades. It is a great challenge to concur with this functional decline. In his speech Mushroom and the Age-Related Cognitive Decline? he reported that the mushroom consumption has markedly prevented age-related cognitive decline, when compared with fish, nuts and tea. Also, there is experimental evidence supports the idea that mushroom consumption may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.?

Ling-Zhi (Ganoderma mushroom) bears plenty of multi-bio-reactive secondary metabolites, emphasized by Xie Yizhen, professor and the director of the Edible Fungi R&D Center in Guangdong Institute of Microbiology. Ling-Zhi is now listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Treatment Summary, and it is widely processed into medicine or functional food. Professor Xie reviewed the anti-tumor effect of Ling-Zhi, and shared the latest function research on improving blood pumping capacity and suppression of genes related to heart failure.

For sharing industrial information and integrating edible fungi products and the health food market, a group of companies was invited to join into the fare of Natural & Nutraceutical Products China Guangzhou 2019. Yue Wei, Lin Zhong Bao, and Wu Ma Zhai and other company members showed their mushroom products to the public.
